The typical Bulgarian yogurt is a high-alkaline and high-protein food. In order to follow the principles of separate nutrition, i.e, if you want to speed up the digestion and make it more effective, I do recommend you that you consume yogurt alone since it is quite hard to digest, plus its assimilation takes between 2-4 hours.
And yet, there are some foods that are good to combine with yogurt:
- yogurt and non-starchy foods (cooked carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, tomatoes, green beans, leak, peppers, sorrel, zucchini, spinach, etc);
- yogurt and olives;
- yogurt and sugary fruits (bananas, peaches, oranges);
Improper combinations:
- yogurt and nuts;
- yogurt and seeds;
- yogurt and cereals;
- yogurt and cheese;
- yogurt and meat;
- yogurt and fish;
- yogurt and starchy foods (potatoes, legumes);
- yogurt and pasta;
- yogurt and desserts; (an extremely unhealthy combination since desserts contain starch and sugars, which slows down the digestion and lead to bloating and fermentation in stomach when consumed with protein-rich food;
