What should I know about organic foods?

What is organic produce?

Organic foods differ from any conventional food that can be found on the shelf in every store mainly in the way they are produced. Are they safer and more nutritious?

There are actually a lot of people who are deeply convinced in the fact that organic foods are way safer than conventionally-processed ones. It is true that organically-raised foods are pesticides-free and if so, does this fact make them a better alternative?

All farmers producing organic food are not allowed to use any growth hormones, fertilizers or pesticides. There are numbers of requirements which have to be met so as to be sure that you eat “clean“ and absolutely safe products at the same time.

Does it worth the price?

Organic foods are more expensive than conventional foods. Whenever you go to the store you will surely see a huge price difference. They, however, are better for both your health and the environment in many ways. What is of paramount importance to all of us, the consumers, is to stay healthy. Organic produce uses no pesticides and animals are not fed with growth hormones or antibiotics as well.

On the whole, you can easily get rid of the pesticides on fruits or vegetables simply by washing them or peeling off the outer skin, respectively.

You need to make a habit of looking at the food labels so as to know the level of pesticides used in food production. Nobody actually pays attention to these “details“ which can affect our health in one way or another at the end of the day.

Have you ever heard of the “clean“ food list?

These are non-organic vegetables and fruits which, however, have the lowest levels of pesticides residue which makes them the perfect choice for you and your family. Amongst these foods are: asparagus, onion, papaya, eggplant, mushrooms, sweet corn, mango, pineapple, frozen sweet peas, avocado, cabbage, kiwi, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe and grapefruit.
